Free form sculptural illumination and functional art
about Lisa

Having grown up on the Maine coast, Lisa draws on all aspects of Maine’s natural resources; from the rocky coast to its mountain tops.  As a graduate of the Maine College of Art, she has taken her skills in metalsmithing and jewelry making to a new level.  She combines many mediums and processes including sterling silver, copper, wood, enameling, wool felting, crocheting, sewing, and papermaking.

“I thrive on combining all of these elements into my daily life.  My process revolves around creating and developing the elements of my pieces, then building the forms with my handmade materials.  I have always loved working closely with nature and with my hands.”

Lisa is now concentrating her many passions and talents into Free Form Sculptural Illuminations.  Throughout spring, summer and fall, Lisa harvests and observes natural elements (such as wildflowers, grasses, leaves, seeds, berries, root systems and rock formations,) to add texture, color and design to her paper.   Translating these observations and elements, Lisa brings them into the studio where her voice of nature is created, starting with abaca paper pulp and copper wire.

Taking essential aspects of natural line formation and translating them into copper wire, free forms, she creates a skeleton for a lampshade.  Once a form is created, papermaking is the next step.  Lisa then adds color and textural elements, like milkweed to create her paper.  Combining these two processes develops an aura of light creating an essence of being in any given atmosphere.

“I truly believe that the creative process is an evolutionary one.  I am always discovering new methods, learning new techniques, and translating them through my emotion and vision.  I hope that I have shared this with you in my artistry.  I wish for others to recognize the value of the creative process and have the chance to indulge themselves in the natural elements of my work.”
